Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Projects
CDBG grants are awarded by the City of Thousand Oaks, CA from the Federal Housing and Urban Development Department. SAFE has successfully applied for and received four CDBG grants and we expect to receive additional grants going forward. SAFE coordinates and administers all work associated with the grants to ensure it is carried out correctly and the beneficiaries receive the much-needed services for which they applied.
2020-2021
Budget: $75,000
Scope: Install energy-efficient windows, new roofs, and heating/air conditioning.
Beneficiaries: Approximately 13 low and extremely low-income elderly home owners in five mobile home parks..
2019-2020
Budget: $138,000
Scope: Install energy-efficient windows and new roofs.
Beneficiaries: Approximately 16-17 low and extremely low-income elderly home owners in five mobile home parks.
2018-2019
Budget: Approx. $192,000
Scope: Install energy-efficient windows, roofs, heating and cooling systems, and water heaters. Make electrical repairs. Re-level homes.
Beneficiaries: 28 low and extremely low-income elderly home owners in five mobile home parks.
2017-2018
Budget: $145,000
Scope: Install energy-efficient windows in 9 homes and new roofs on 5 homes. Replace furnace and/or air conditioning units in 4 homes.
Beneficiaries: 15 low and extremely low-income elderly home owners in five mobile home parks. Unfortunately, only 1/3 of the applicants were able to benefit from this grant.
2016-2017
Budget: $139,050
Scope: Install energy-efficient windows in 10 homes, new roofs on 5 homes, and a furnace in 1 home. Make electrical repairs in 2 homes and re-level 1 mobile home.
Beneficiaries: 18 low and extremely low-income elderly home owners in two mobile home parks.
Habitat for Humanity, The Home Depot Foundation, and Calvary Community Church
Winter 2015
SAFE partnered with Habitat for Humanity, Home Depot, and Calvary Community Church to provide services for senior veterans and/or their surviving spouses. Refrigerators, furnaces, air conditioning, and water heaters were among the items furnished and installed free of charge. The Home Depot Foundation provided a $20,000 grant that was augmented with volunteers adding $15,000 of value. A total of 15 residents were served.
Summer 2015
SAFE partnered again with Habitat for Humanity to paint the exterior of four homes.
